Professor Marcela Esperanza Buitrón De La Torre, was born in April 1974 (Mexico City, Mexico), and studied Graphic Communication Design at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Azcapotzalco Campus (1997), also obtaining a diploma as a Specialist in Hypermedia (1999) as well as the degrees of Master (2005) and Doctor (2012) in Design from the same institution.

Since 1998 she has worked as a Research Professor at the Azcapotzalco Campus, teaching the degree of Graphic Communication Design and the Graduate Degree in Design -Information Visualization line-.
Since 2011, she has been recognized with the PRODEP Profile, being part of the academic body "Design and Education under the paradigm of the Internet of Things".

As a researcher, she is part of the New Technologies Area (1998-2015 / 2021-2022), conducting research on the planning and development of Virtual Learning Environments, with results such as the proposal of a "Didactic model for the creation of VLE" as well as "Strategies for the design of the interface of a virtual classroom". Currently, she is developing research related to education (u-Learning) and health (e-Health) under the Internet of Things paradigm.

She has participated in various national and international forums and events presenting the results of her research, such as the Web Net 2000 Congress, 5th Annual Conference on the WWW and Internet (2000); the Iberoamerican and National Congresses of Innovative Teaching Material (2000 to 2015), the 1st UAM Education Forum (2008), the Virtual Educa Congress 2011, the Congress of Administration and Technology for architecture, design, and engineering (2012 and 2015), II Iberoamerican Meeting of innovation, research and good educational practices (2015), the 1st. Forum "Digital Education and Design: the future of CyAD" (2017),10th International Conference on e-Health (2018), IoT Solutions World Congress (2019), Academia Journals (2016-2022), among others.

Throughout her career, she has received awards and distinctions such as University Merit Medal for undergraduate (1997) and graduates studies (1999 and 2012) as well as an Academic Mention (2005) from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana; Second Place in the Computer Science Contest UAM 97 (1997); and the Solidarity Scholarship (1992) (SPP-SEP-UNAM).

Along with her work as a teacher and researcher, she collaborates with the journal Tecnología & Diseño -indexed by Latindex and Ebsco- of the Azcapotzalco Campus (2016-20120). Also, she is part of the UAM-Azcapotzalco Editorial Committee (2020-2022).
