Professor Rosana Guevara Ramos holds a Ph.D. in Social Studies with a specialization in Labor Studies from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Iztapalapa Campus (2006). She also holds a Master’s degree in Sociology of Work (UAM, 2000) and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology (UAM, 1990). She has complemented her academic training with diplomas, seminars, and specialized courses at prestigious institutions such as El Colegio de México, the Arturo Rosenblueth Foundation, and Universidad Iberoamericana, among others. Additionally, she has undertaken research stays at the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Barcelona.
Since joining UAM in 1996, she has carried out her academic work at the Iztapalapa Campus, within the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities, Department of Sociology. Her academic roles include Head of the Research Area “Classes and Social Reproduction” (1999–2002), recipient of the PROMEP–SEP academic profile recognition (2007), and Coordinator of the Sociology undergraduate program (2008–2013). She has served as an advisor for various evaluation committees, peer reviewer for academic journals and books, and member of scientific and editorial committees for national and international publications. Her work includes the publication of articles, research reports, book chapters, and educational materials.
In her teaching career, she has delivered approximately 160 courses in the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities, mainly in the Sociology undergraduate program. She has also taught courses for other divisions (CBI and CBS) through the UEA “Concepts of Complexity,” an extra-divisional and multidisciplinary unit. In 2010, she served as advisor to the Interdivisional Commission tasked with promoting the creation of inter- and extra-divisional UEAs, appointed by the heads of the three divisions. She has taught seminars and postgraduate courses at other higher education institutions on topics such as applied statistics, social research methodology, educational planning and management, and multidisciplinary studies and sustainability. She has actively promoted institutional efforts to grant scholarships, support student mobility and exchange, and encourage student participation in academic events and social service programs. Additionally, she has supervised and reviewed final research projects and served on examination and hiring committees for undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Before joining UAM as a full-time professor-researcher, she served as Deputy Director and Director at the Ministry of Social Development and was a founding member of the National Institute for Social Development (INDESOL) (1992–1996), where she established partnerships with civil society organizations and various social and labor groups. Since 2003, she has worked as an advisor to UAM on multidisciplinary academic projects promoted by the Federal Ministry of Tourism. In 2005, she was appointed honorary Vice President of the Network of Researchers and Multidisciplinary Research Centers in Tourism (RICIT). She has participated in agreements between UAM and federal agencies such as SEDESOL, SECTUR, and FONATUR involving research, teaching, and cultural outreach activities. Her research has explored tourism-related labor in Mexico City, and she is currently conducting studies on civil society organizations in relation to labor rights, university working conditions, and labor reform (2020–2025).
