Profile
Dr. Juan Villegas Cortez is a Professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Azcapotzalco Campus, where he conducts research in the fields of artificial intelligence and computer vision. He holds both a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree in Computer Science, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics. His research integrates bio-inspired metaheuristics, statistical pattern recognition, and machine learning architectures to develop advanced solutions in computational imaging and algorithm design.
He is a Level I member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNII) and holds the PRODEP Desirable Profile recognition. He is an active member of IEEE, ACM, and the Mexican Society of Artificial Intelligence (SMIA). He also served as Dean of NASA’s LUNABOTICS competition, contributing to the integration of academic research and applied robotic engineering.
His scientific output includes 76 publications indexed in international databases, along with extensive participation in national and international technical conferences. In teaching, he has delivered more than 130 undergraduate and graduate courses and has supervised numerous doctoral, master’s, and engineering theses, playing a significant role in the training of specialized human resources.
In addition, he actively contributes as a technical reviewer for high-impact scientific journals and as a member of international conference program committees, strengthening the scientific ecosystem within his field of expertise.
