Profile
Professor Sergio Álvarez Hernández has a Master´s degree in Experimental Biology, he completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus, where he has worked in the Applied Phycology laboratory of the Department of Hydrobiology since 1992.
He develops the line of research in Applied Phycology, in the research of applications of the macro and microalgae of Mexico, emphasizing the investigation of secondary metabolites of macroalgae, cultures of marine and freshwater microalgae and their use in various applications, as well as the ecology of populations and communities of these organisms.
On these lines and others, he has published more than 29 specialized research articles in indexed journals, mora than five book chapters, more than three books, and has presented the results of his research in more than 100 national and international specialized events.
He has trained more than 20 undergraduate and postgraduate students and has teach more than 250 courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
