Professor José Luis Moreno Ruiz holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences, Department of Biology, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Ph.D. from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM). Specialty in systematics, ecology, and primary production of the marine, lagoon, freshwater microalgae, macroalgae, seagrasses, and mangroves, scanning, and transmission electron microscopy.
Assigned to the Faculty of Sciences of the UNAM, UAM Iztapalapa Campus, Institutes of Geology, Biology and Marine Sciences, and Limnology of the UNAM; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (17). Currently, assigned to UAM Xochimilco Campus as a Professor with the analysis of primary production in Mexican coastal systems (mangrove, seagrasses, macroscopic and microscopic algae) and their interaction with climatic, geomorphological, and physicochemical factors; teaching undergraduate courses (63), with interaction in several research projects (187) primarily related to ecological aspects. Participated in the training of human resources by advising and directing undergraduate, master's and social service theses (142).
He attends various national and international forums as a speaker or lecturer to show the progress or completion of research work (74), which has led him to obtain national and international publications (26), he belongs to the National System of Researchers and has academic recognition (48). Among his latest works, the three books stand out: Dinoflagellates of the Gulf of California; Phytoplankton focused on teaching; and Diatoms of the Gulf of California; and completion of the book Diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) from the southern Gulf of Mexico. He contributes knowledge to the study of algae with chapters in seven books: Organisms indicators of water quality and pollution (bioindicators); Guide for the collection, management, and field observations for bioindicators of water quality; Manual for the collection, management, and field observations for bioindicators of water quality; Commemorative Book of the Mexican Society of Planctology; Biodiversity of Tabasco; Methodological Contributions to the Knowledge of Natural Resources; Mangroves of Mexico and some biogeographical aspects. Didactic materials (260), scripts (248), scientific documentaries (260), and anthologies (260). As well as participation in academic commissions (44).
