Professor Aida Solís Oba received her B.Sc. in Chemistry from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Xochimilco Campus, her M.Sc. in Chemistry from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from UAM Xochimilco Campus and her postdoctoral degree from Florida University. She is a member of the SNI level I, a Professor with PROMEP recognition, member of the Consolidated Academic Group: Biocatalysis applied to organic chemistry.
She has been a Professor at UAM Xochimilco Campus since 1993, teaching in the QFB degree module: Obtaining Organic Compounds of Pharmaceutical Interest; tutor and advisor in the Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Xochimilco Campus; tutor and advisor in the Doctorate in Biological and Health Sciences, Xochimilco Campus; tutor in the Master in Applied Biotechnology, Center for Research in Applied Biotechnology (CIBA) Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN); and tutor in the Doctorate in Applied Biotechnology, Center for Research in Applied Biotechnology (CIBA) IPN.
The research area in which she develops is the synthesis of organic compounds with high enantiomeric excess, with potential application in the preparation of organic compounds with biological activity. To carry out the synthesis, enzymes from plants accessible in Mexico have been sought; the enzymes that catalyze the organic reactions are called biocatalysts. Among the most important achievements is the discovery of biocatalysts that had not been used before, which can be used in asymmetric organic synthesis. Among the sources of new biocatalysts obtained are: hydroxynitrile lyases from mamey, capulin, Creole peach and muscatel plum seeds; oxidoreductases from different types of bean seeds, mamey and capulin seeds, materials that are considered vegetable waste; hydrolases present in nopal, orange and lemon peel.
