Professor Arnulfo Uriel de Santiago Gómez (Aguascalientes, 1958) holds a Ph.D. in History and Civilizations from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), based in Paris, France. He also holds a master's degree in Publishing from the University of Guadalajara and a master's degree in Communication from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and, at the then National School of Professional Studies of Acatlán, a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Social Communication.
Member of the National System of Researchers, level 1 from 2009 to 2011 and again from 2015 to 2017. He is a Professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Xochimilco Campus since 1992, where he teaches the subject of "History of Publishing" -whose program has been proposed by him- in the Master's Degree in Editorial Design and Production , as well as "Writing and Communication-Journalism" in the Social Communication career.
His publications make up one of the most complete overviews of the dissemination processes of the Ministry of Public Education, and support both research in this field and the updating of Mexican teachers. Two of them have been recognized by specialized juries, and another one edited by the Ministry of Public Education (SEP).
First he published "Comunicación educativa: una opción marginal del Estado", in Obra premiada. Experiencias y propuestas educativas, Mexico, Fundación SNTE para la Cultura del Maestro Mexicano, 1995.
Second, with Sarah Corona, he co-authored "Niños y libros. Publicaciones infantiles de la Secretaría de Educación Pública", which SEP published in 2011 to commemorate its 90 years of activities, and is distributed free of charge. In 2015 he won second place in the Radio Educación Essay Contest, 90 years, with his text "Nuevas voces para nuevas necesidades: Radio and Education."
He defended on December 20, 2008 the thesis "La edición y la librería francesas en México en el siglo XIX", carried out under the direction of Roger Chartier, at the EHESS, with a jury composed of other notable historians: Serge Gruzinski, Jean-Yves Mollier and Annick Lempérière, and for which he obtained honorable mention. With the article "Social Sciences in Latin America. Siglo XIX: Ediciones como primeras fuentes" she won in 2013 the International Award for Research in Social Sciences of the journal Argumentos. He integrates since its inception in 2013 the Scientific Council of the Transnational Network of Studies on the Press in Foreign Languages (Transfopress), based at the Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France. Since 2016 he has been a technical advisor to UAM for the evaluation of the Infancia research group, whose headquarters is located at UAM Xochimilco Campus made up of professors from various disciplines from across UAM. Since 2019 he is a member of the Editorial Committee of UAM.
