Dr. Norma Pilar Castellanos Abrego has a Bachelor's, Master's, and doctoral studies in biomedical engineering at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, graduating in 1992, 1996, and 2004, respectively. He joined the university as an academic technician in 1992 in the area of biomedical engineering. In 1994 he joined the area of digital signal processing and biomedical images as an associate professor.

Since then, she has been working on digital image processing and, more recently, computational modeling.

She has contributed to society by publishing the results in research, teaching, and textbooks, presenting advances in research in international and national forums, and advising students on their terminal projects and master theses.
