Profile
Professor Barbara Vargas Miranda was born in Nicolas Romero, State of Mexico. She holds a B.Sc. degree in Biology from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus. Master of Science (Biology) from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Ph.D. in Biological Sciences. She holds a position at UAM Iztapalapa Campus as a Professor attached to the Department of Health Sciences of the Division of Biological and Health Sciences. She was coordinator of the teaching laboratories of the Division of Biological and Health Sciences, 2017-2018.
Her professional experience has been participating in 15 research projects since 1991. UAM Iztapalapa Campus, Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), CONANP. She did a research stay at the Laboratory of Terrestrial Chordates, School of Biological Sciences, IPN from 2012-2013. She was coordinator of ten graduate level courses, 20 continuing education courses, a diploma course in Wildlife Conservation, 2012, two symposia on conservation and reproduction of mammals in 2019 and 2020. Her lines of research have been the study of bats in the state of Puebla, Mexico. Phylogeography of Artibeus jamaicensis triomylus and A. j. yucatanicus (Chiroptera: Phyllostomidae) from the Pacific slope and the Gulf of Mexico slope. Systematics and taxonomy of bats, the study of their distribution and inventories of bats and other mammals of Mexico in the project "Monitoring of Myotis planiceps and Leptonycteris nivalis in the flora and fauna protection area Sierra la Mojonera and its zone of influence", in San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas, of CONANP. She studied kinship relationships in a population of the common vampire Desmodus rotundus (Chiroptera: Phyllostomidae) in the biosphere reserve Sierra Gorda de Guanajuato, Mexico, in agreement with the School of Biological Sciences, IPN. Participation in the Program for the conservation and reproduction of bighorn sheep in Mexico, in collaboration with UAM Iztapalapa Campus and the General Directorate of Zoos and Wildlife, Mexico, since March 2013.
She belongs to the Academic Group, Conservation and Reproduction of Domestic and Wild Mammals, since 2016 and is in formation, in PRODEP.
Her experience in social service consultancy, such as: Technical support in the evaluation of licensing procedures and intensive wildlife registrations. Special and temporal analysis of the diet of wildcat (Lynx rufus) in the Biosphere Reserve of Mapimí Durango. Preservation and identification of small mammals for scientific collections. Preservation and identification of botanical material for scientific collections. Feeding habits of the horned owl (Bubo virginianus) in the locality "Las Minitas" community El Gallo, municipality of Vanegas, Sierra la Mojonera, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, among others.
She was part of the tutorial committee of master's degree UAM Iztapalapa Campus or specialty in the thesis: "Behavioral indicators in a guild of mesopredators obtained by indirect methods in Santo Tomás Otlaltepec, Puebla". Master's Degree in Biology: Miguel Angel Toriz Casabal, UAM Iztapalapa Campus, and Effect of acupuncture in the treatment of depression evaluated with Hamilton's test in the Specialization in Acupuncture and Phytotherapy, UAM Iztapalapa Campus.
Participation in congresses, national and international symposiums with more than 50 papers. Writing of specialized research articles: scientific articles in indexed journals.
