Profile

Professor Graciela Carrillo González holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Barcelona, a Master's degree in Economics and International Politics from the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE), and a Bachelor's degree in Planning for Agricultural Development from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), she also took all the courses with the first generation of the Doctorate in Ecological Economics coordinated by Dr. Joan Martínez Alier at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. This training was definitive in adopting the subject on which she has worked for 25 years and which has allowed her to collaborate with economists, administrators, biologists, and engineers.

Member of the National System of Researchers, level 1, and her lines of research are Circular Economy, Industrial Ecology, Eco-innovation, Business and Environmental Management, and Sustainable Local Development. Her doctoral thesis was completed in 2006 and was the first thesis in Spanish on the subject of Industrial Ecology. She has participated in several forums and congresses related to the topics of sustainability, industrial ecology, circular economy, and local development. She has written about 90 articles in books and journals, coordinated nine collective books, and advised the theses of more than 20 master's and doctoral students.

As a teacher, she worked for three years at the undergraduate and graduate level at the Universidad del Valle de México, and for seven years, she taught economics at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Azcapotzalco Campus. In 2003, she joined UAM Xochimilco Campus as a Professor teaching undergraduate courses in administration and postgraduate courses in Economics and Innovation Management, the Master's in Sustainable Societies, and the Integral Postgraduate Course in Administrative Sciences.

In terms of university management, she has participated in the Divisional Review Committee, in the Economic-Administrative Sciences Review Committee in the General Rector's Office, and was head of the area for seven years in two periods. During that time, she won the area award three times and was coordinator of the Master's in Economics and Innovation Management for three years, a period in which she renewed the PNPC. Likewise, she collaborated with a work team in re-accrediting the administration career, which was achieved in 2016. She was director of the Revista Administración y Organizaciones, taking it to its virtual version on the OJS platform, and currently serves as head of the Department of Economic Production, which comprises nine research areas and about 80 professors.

From 2003 to 2019, she collaborated and coordinated 30 sponsored projects with the public sector, in which she involved other professors from UAM Xochimilco Campus and other Campuses, as well as some students. These projects ranged from prospective studies, evaluations of social programs, and collaborative projects. She has also coordinated academic research projects with rural communities.

She participates in international networks, currently as Vice President of the Research, Teaching and Technological Innovation Network (RIDIT); and a member of the Innovation and Technology Transfer Network for Furniture Manufacturers (RITMMA) and the Mesoamerican Society for Ecological Economics (SMEE).

In recent years, she has focused on aspects related to the environmental problem and the analysis of the impact generated by global dynamics on the resources of the Latin American region. Beyond the description of the serious situation and the risk that our countries face from the large corporations that exploit the natural resources of the region, she has been interested in studying the alternatives that rural communities are building and how to confront and defend their resources by generating alternative ways of life for their populations.
