Profile
For the past 25 years, Dr. Francisco Javier Alarcón Aguilar has been involved with the Pharmacology research group at UAM in generating knowledge in the research line "Pharmacology of medicinal plants and diseases related to metabolic syndrome", conducting cutting-edge research in the field.
Within this group, his participation has been crucial for its development and evolution, with the aim of taking chemical-pharmacological research of natural products to a mechanistic level, delving into computer-assisted rational drug design, and, overall, implementing cutting-edge techniques to elucidate their molecular-level mechanisms of action. This has allowed the research group to be recognized as a benchmark in the investigation of natural resources with potential utility in the treatment of diseases related to metabolic syndrome, both nationally and internationally.
During this period, several achievements have been obtained, among which the following stand out: Research articles 103; Human resources 144 (41 undergraduate research projects, 53 social services, 1 specialization advisory in biotechnology, 16 co-supervisions of master's theses, and 18 doctoral theses; 10 master's thesis advisories and 3 doctoral thesis advisories); participation in specialized scientific events 425 (300 national and 125 international); evaluation committees 241 (137 research article reviews; 46 research project reviews (CONACYT, PNPC, etc.); 43 on examination or opposition jury committees); updating courses 10; awards 32; article citations, over 5000 until February 2024.
It is worth noting that all these achievements have been obtained thanks to a great effort on the part of all the members of the group. Currently, Dr. Alarcón Aguilar is the coordinator of the Academic Body in Pharmacology of Medicinal Plants.
