Profile
Dr. Humberto Vázquez Torres studied the Bachelor of Chemistry in the Fac. Of Chemistry, UNAM, Master in Chemistry, and Doctorate in Science at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Iztapalapa Campus, Mexico City. His lines of research are: Synthesis and Characterization of Polymers and Physics and Chemistry of Polymeric Materials; particularly in: Polymeric systems for controlled release and tissue engineering, Thermo-rigid resins and nanocomposites, Modification and characterization of natural polymers.
From 1981 to 1990, he worked as an Associate Researcher "D" at the Scientific Research Center of Yucatan, AC, then worked as an Associate Professor "D" for four years at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Iztapalapa Campus, and since 1990, in that same University, has worked as Full Professor "C" TC Indefinitely.
During those 26 years at UAMI, he worked at the Mexican Petroleum Institute for a brief sabbatical period. He has belonged to the National System of Researchers since 1989 and has had Level 2 since 2008. He has published 71 articles in peer-reviewed, and indexed journals, two book chapters, and 1 registered patent, with more than 1,620 citations by other authors. He has directed theses of 3 undergraduate and 11 graduate students; A Ph.D. thesis in Science (Chemistry) won the Best Polymer Thesis Award, convened by the Polymeric Society of Mexico for theses developed in the previous 3-year period.
He received an Honorable Mention for the defense of the Bachelor Thesis, Recognition as a Distinguished Researcher by the CICY, the University Merit Medal by the UAM-Iztaplapa, Research Award by the UAM-Iztapalapa, Scholarship for the Recognition of the Teaching Career, Scholarship of Support to the Permanence of the Academic Personnel during the last 26 years in the UAM-Iztapalapa. In most of these years at UAM, he has received the Stimulus for Teaching and Research and Stimulus for Outstanding Academic Career.
