Professor Joel Ricardo Jiménez Cruz studied Electronics and Computing Bachelor at the Faculty of Engineering at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). At the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus, he completed a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering in biomedical signals. He studied for a Ph.D. in virtual education at the UVHM.

From 1979 to 1981, he worked in private industry, mainly at the RCA maquiladora in Ciudad Juárez, and from 1982 to 1990 at the Faculty of Engineering as a teacher, and at the Faculty of Psychology at UNAM in research in knowledge fields of electronic instrumentation and biomedical signal processing.

Since 1991 he has been a Research Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at UAM Iztapalapa Campus, where he teaches classes on Digital Systems, Computer Architecture, Computer Programming, Information Systems, and Artificial Intelligence.

He conducts research in Cybernetics in Neural Networks, Robotics, and STEAM, and in the knowledge area of Virtual Education.
