Profile
Professor Virginia Gonzalez Velez received her B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) and her Ph.D. summa cum laude from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain). Research stays at the Institute of Bioengineering of Alicante (Spain) and at the Faculty of Sciences of the Free University of Brussels (Belgium) under the FUNCDYN program of the European Science Foundation. Post-doctorate in the "Numerical Analysis and Biomathematics" group at the University of Cantabria (Spain).
Professor at UAM Azcapotzalco Campus since 1999, PROMEP profile since 2005 and National Researcher (SNI) between 2015 and 2017. Member of the study committee of the Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering at UAM Azcapotzalco Campus from 2003 to 2007 and of the study committee of the Postgraduate Program in Process Engineering since 2013.
Professor González develops research on mathematical and computational modeling of cellular biochemical processes underlying diseases such as diabetes or Alzheimer's disease. From 2015 to date, she has published seven scientific articles in indexed journals, two short communications, and ten participations in international congresses and meetings.
She has been director and co-director of eight terminal projects for graduate students in Chemical, Electronic, and Computer Engineering. She has directed seven completed master's theses and is currently directing one master's thesis and one doctoral thesis.
Between 2006 and 2012, she participated in three research projects sponsored by the Government of Spain-Ministry of Science and Innovation and by the BBVA-Spain Foundation. She was a responsible technical researcher for Mexico in a bilateral cooperation project CONACyT-FNRS with the Université Libre de Bruxelles between 2015 and 2018. She is currently responsible for a divisional research project of the CBI Division of the UAM Azcapotzalco Campus.
