Profile

Dr. Luis Amado Ayala Pérez holds a Ph.D. in Biological and Health Sciences from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, a Master of Science degree in Marine Sciences from the ICMyL at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from ENEP Iztacala (UNAM). He holds the rank of National Researcher Level I in the Sistema Nacional de Investigadoras e Investigadores (SNII) and holds the PRODEP Desirable Profile distinction. He has an extensive institutional leadership background at UAM Xochimilco, having served as Director of the Division of Biological and Health Sciences (2022-2026), Divisional Academic Secretary (2018-2022), Head of the Department of Man and His Environment (1994-1996), Coordinator of the Master’s Program in Applied Ecology (2014-2018), and Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program in Biology (1991-1994).

He serves as a Full-Time Professor (Level C) in the Research Area of Ecological Systems and Processes of Tropical Aquatic Resources within the Department of Man and His Environment of the Division of Biological and Health Sciences at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Unidad Xochimilco.

His research focuses on tropical aquatic ecology, environmental analysis and planning, and the ecological and economic foundations for the conservation of biotic natural resources. His scholarly output includes more than 73 peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and book chapters, 52 technical and outreach reports, supervision of 18 graduate theses, and principal leadership of externally funded research projects.
