Profile
The academic background of Dr. Jorge Armando Morales Novelo is as follows: PhD in Economic Sciences from the UAM, Master’s studies in Economics at the UNAM, Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Faculty of Economics at the UNAM, and a Diploma in Applied Mathematics to Economics at the UNAM, along with several other specialized studies on water issues. Currently, he is a professor-researcher in the Department of Economics, a member of the Committee for the Specialization in Economics and Water Management (EEGA), and the Growth and Environment Area at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Azcapotzalco Campus. In these academic spaces, he is a founding member.
His research experience spans more than 20 years and is focused on environmental topics, including Economic Growth and Environmental Sustainability, Economic and Environmental Accounts, Water Economics, Valuation of Water Resources, and the use of natural resources, specializing in water, Water Economics, Economic Modeling of the Natural and Economic System, and the Socioeconomic Valuation of Water Resources.
His professional experience includes work as a consultant on environmental issues at both national and international levels. Two cases are highlighted: he was the Coordinator of the Trilateral Consortium to Promote Institutional Cooperation, Faculty Exchange, and Student Mobility in Environmental Sciences Education, with an Emphasis on Technology and Business Management Programs. This project was selected through a competition by the Undersecretary of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) to develop the Mobility Program in Higher Education in North America (Canada, the United States, and Mexico), Mexico, UAM, 1995 to 1998. In 2022, he participated as a support consultant for the IDB in the analysis of access to drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene services in urban and rural educational centers in Latin America and the Caribbean, and in the design of the strategy for the development of a baseline that would contribute to their improvement.
