Professor María Itzel Sainz González has been an academic at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Azcapotzalco Campus since 1989, currently Professor and Full Time Researcher Level C in the Department of Research and Knowledge, Division of Sciences and Arts for Design and is head of the research area Disruptive Design.
She is part of the Research Network Arts, Sciences, Humanities, and Citizenship (UAM) and the Interdisciplinary Seminar on Art and Design (UNAM, UAEMex, UAM). She has participated in numerous academic commissions within UAM. She was Head of the Cultural Activities Section (2005-2009) and Coordinator of University Extension (2009-2013). She is currently a National System of Researchers member, level 1. She has PRODEP profile recognition, where she is a member of the academic group Research and Design.
She holds a Ph.D. in Information Design and Visualization from UAM Azcapotzalco Campus with the topic: "Designing for e-learning for pleasure. The role of the graphic communication designer in the virtual space: the case of aesthetic reading". Master in Communication and Educational Technologies by the Latin American Institute of Educational Communication (2013); Master in Reading Promotion and Children's Literature at the University of Castilla La Mancha, Spain (2005). She has a degree in Graphic Communication Design from UAM Azcapotzalco Campus (1987). She has completed the following courses: Active Teaching in the Classroom of the Future (UAM, UNAM); Cultural Policies and Cultural Management (CENART, OEI, UAM); Oral Expression and Written Communication (UAM); Reading Promotion (Conaculta/Ibby Mexico) and Montessori Education (Anglo Montessori School).
Her works include the books: "La comunicación universitaria en el espacio virtual" (2021); "Diseñar para e-leer por placer" (2018) (UAM); "Racrufi: arte de alta energía" (2019) and "Jaime Ruelas: ilustrando el high energy. Arte fantástico mexicano" (2015) the last two in co-authorship with Ramírez Juan Rogelio and Ramírez, Antonio (UAM Azcapotzalco Campus/ Editorial Milenio). In addition, she has published chapters in 14 more books, four indexed articles, numerous reviews, and educational scripts and has developed various teaching materials. She has participated in book presentations in local, national, and international forums.
Professor Sainz has developed nine research projects, currently Approximations of disruptive design and Visualization from an intercultural perspective. She has participated as a speaker or lecturer in more than thirty congresses, colloquiums, and seminars.
She has directed more than 25 final papers at the specialty level within the Graduate Program in Cultural Policies and Cultural Management at UAM Iztapalapa Campus. She has collaborated as a reviewer of final papers or juror of degree exams for programs at UAM Azcapotzalco Campus (CYAD and CSH), UAM Iztapalapa Campus (CSH), and the Universidad Veracruzana, for bachelor, master, and doctoral levels.
In the professional field, she was a partner in Proyecto Magenta, dedicated to editorial design and computer graphics. From 1998 to 2006, she was a partner in Movimente, a company dedicated to promoting reading and distributing children's books. As part of her work in this field, she taught courses and workshops to children, parents, and teachers. She collaborated with IBBY Mexico (2002-2006): she was part of the Reader's Committee, a member of the Directive Committee, and coordinator of Communication and Liaison (2004-2005). In 2004 and 2005, she coordinated the working group that pre-selected elementary school 3rd to 6th grades for the SEP Classroom Libraries.
