Professor Laura Isabel Romero Castillo was born in Mexico City in February 1958. She studied Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), the Master of Architecture in Urban Planning at the same institution; she completed her Ph.D. in Sciences and Arts for Design in the Area of Research and Territorial Management at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) 2011. She completed postgraduate studies in Urban and Regional Planning at the Technological University of Seczecin, Poland (1985) and in Housing and Urban Renewal at the Institute for Housing Studies, The Netherlands (1990).

She has published three collective books: "Environmental development in the Papaloapan basin", (2017), "Environmental design in the Papaloapan basin" (2010) and "The problems of inhabited spaces and the environment" (2006); published by the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana. She has published articles in books addressing environmental issues, risks and vulnerability, and the design of living spaces.
