Profile
Professor Matías Martínez Coronel studied biology at the National School of Biological Sciences, Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), and obtained the degree of Biologist in 1989; later in 2005, he obtained the degree of Master´s of Science from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
He has worked as a teacher at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus and at the Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de Chiapas. His interests have been the studies of fauna and ecology of amphibians, reptiles, and mammals. He has also advised the Federal Electricity Commission and Environmental Consultants in environmental impact studies. He has worked for more than ten years with the bat community of "Los Laguitos" Cave in the state of Chiapas. Currently, he has focused on studying the herpetofauna and mastofauna of the Central Valleys of Oaxaca. The results of his research have been presented in different national forums and published in national and international journals. The main topics addressed are faunal studies, morphometric variation of rodents, feeding and reproduction of amphibians, reptiles and mammals.
