Profile

Professor Luis Fernando Guerrero Baca is an Architect, with a Master'sMaster's in Architectural Restoration and Doctor in Design. Since 1998, he has been a member of the National System of Researchers of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) and currently holds Level II. He is an evaluator of Research Projects and Postgraduate Programs of the PNPC of CONACYT, as well as of the PRODEP Program of the SEP.

He has developed research on typology and restoration theory, as well as historical and traditional construction systems, with more than 240 articles published in Mexican and foreign journals. He is the author of the book Arquitectura de Tierra en México (1994) and editor of the ten Anuarios de Arquitectura (1999-2009); editor of the books Patrimonio Construido con Tierra (2007); Reutilización del patrimonio edificado con adobe (2014), and Arquitectura de tierra en América Latina (2016).

In addition, he has given more than 300 lectures, courses, and workshops on these topics in most Latin American countries, as well as in France, Italy, Mali, Portugal, Spain, and the United States.

He is a member of the editorial committees of the Gaceta del Instituto del Patrimonio de Oaxaca (Mexico), Boletín de Monumentos del INAH (Mexico), Revista Gremium (Mexico), Anales de Arquitectura de la UBA (Argentina), Revista Americana de Urbanismo (Spain), Alarife (Colombia) and the International Journal of Heritage Architecture, Wessex (UK).

Since 1987, he has been Professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico City.

He has also been Visiting Professor in postgraduate courses at the National School of Conservation, Restoration and Museography of INAH, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos, the Michoacán University of San Nicolás de Hidalgo, the University of Colima, the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas, the University Institute of Postgraduate Studies in Senior Management of Zacatecas, the University of La Salle in Oaxaca, the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés in Bolivia and the University of Cuenca in Ecuador.

To date, he has taught 272 subjects in the Architecture Career, Master'sMaster's in Conservation, and the Doctorate in Sciences and Arts for Design, in subjects associated with Construction, History, and Theory of Restoration, Sustainable Design, Earthen Architecture, Research Methodology, and Thesis Seminar. He has supervised four bachelor's theses, 65 master's theses, and 16 doctoral theses and has served as a jury for graduate exams on more than 120 occasions.

He is a member of the Ibero-American Network PROTERRA, as well as of the UNESCO Chaire "Architectures de terre, Cultures Constructives et Développement Durable".
