Profile

Doctor Luis Camilo Ríos Castañeda graduated as a Chemist, with honors, from the Faculty of Chemistry of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). In 1994, he obtained his Ph.D. in Sciences at CINVESTAV of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), specializing in Pharmacology. At the invitation of the Newton Fund of the United Kingdom, he carried out two stays in London and Oxford through the Leaders in Innovation Fellowships program.

He has been a Professor in the QFB career and in the Master's and Doctorate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) since 1989.

Dr. Ríos' research work is reflected in more than 300 articles published in international peer-reviewed scientific journals, with more than 7900 citations to his work, with an H index of 52, according to Scopus. He has been a National Researcher Level 3, of the National System of Researchers, since 2004.

He has been a tutor or co-tutor of 30 Ph.D. graduates, 35 Master of Science graduates, and about 50 undergraduate students at UNAM, UAM, CINVESTAV, IPN, UAEM, and UAZ.

He has been a member of the editorial board of the journals: Archivos de Neurociencias (1994- to date), Toxicology Letters (1996-1999), Revista Mexicana de Ciencias Farmacéuticas (2008-2015), Co-Editor of the Revista de Investigación Clínica (2009-2012) and is a Numerary Academician of the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico, Full Academician of the National Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Corresponding Academician of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Spain.

Dr. Ríos has been the winner of several national and international research awards, such as: The Gen Award, the Glaxo-Wellcome Award, the Western Pharmacology Society Award, the National Chemistry Award, "Andrés Manuel del Río" 2011, the Award of Merit in Neurology and Neurosurgery "Dr. Manuel Velasco Suárez" 2013, presented by Mr. President of Mexico, the Hidalgo Award for Science, Technology and Innovation 2014, and one of the Awards of the Ibero-American Academy of Pharmacy in 2020.
