Profile

Professor Jorge Garza Olguín studied Chemistry at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapala Campus. He obtained his Ph.D. from the same institution in 1997 and did a postdoctoral stay at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, in Washington, D.C., between December 1998 and August 2000.

He is a member of the National System of Researchers with the appointment of Researcher Level II and is a Professor assigned to the area of Theoretical Physical Chemistry of the Department of Chemistry of the Iztapalapa Campus of the UAM since 1994 to date. His lines of research have been around density functional theory applied to confined atoms, the study of the exchange potential and Kohn-Sham correlation, the estimation of the hydrogen bridge strength, and the characterization of the electronic density in this chemical contact.

He has published research articles in refereed journals of international circulation and, in the last five years, he has published 17 articles on the above topics. He has been awarded prizes as the best student in the Iztapalapa Campus of the UAM in bachelor's, master´s and doctorate degrees. In addition, he received recognition from the Pacific National Laboratory for a research related to hydrogen bridges that was news in the Chemical & Engineering News.

He is a referee for The Journal of Physical Chemistry, The Journal of the American Chemical Society, The Journal of Chemical Physics, and Computer and Physics Communications, in addition to participating as an academic evaluator of CONACYT projects.
