Profile
Doctor Manuel Arnoldo Castillo Rivera is Professor at the Fish Laboratory, Department of Biology, Biological and Health Sciences, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus, Mexico City. Professor at the Facultad de Estudios Superiores, Zaragoza, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Mexico City.
B.Sc. in Biology, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Iztapalapa Campus; M.Sc. in Sciences, Facultad de Ciencias, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM); and Ph.D. in Biological and Health Sciences, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM).
He has taught more than 220 courses with emphasis on General Ecology, Population Ecology, Community Ecology, Aquatic Ecology, Aquatic Fauna, and Biostatistics, in addition to tutorial courses related to the terminal training of students. Nearly 70 courses taught in front of groups at the master's degree level, with emphasis on Quantitative Ecology, Biostatistics, and Multivariate Analysis; as well as tutorial courses at the graduate level (master's and doctorate) linked to research projects. Extensive participation in professional and degree exams, as well as the direction of social services and bachelor's, master's, and doctoral theses.
In relation to research, he has conducted, developed, and participated in research projects that have resulted in publications in national and foreign media (most of them registered in Web of Science). The main research topics developed are related to fish diversity, biology and ecology; diversity and ecology of phytoplanktonic and zooplanktonic organisms; and estuarine ecology. Based on the experience acquired in the quantitative treatment of field research, it has also been possible to participate in other types of research through the statistical analysis of experimental data related to taxonomic, agronomic and veterinary aspects.
Regarding the dissemination and popularization of science in general, written contributions (articles) and conferences have also been developed, as well as participation in science fairs, which have been oriented in terms of complementary academic training, as well as in terms of dissemination to the general public.
Research and dissemination activities are developed in accordance with the nature of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, which allows and encourages the involvement of human resources in training in these activities, thus making a very relevant contribution.
