Profile

Professor Oscar Yáñez Suárez (1964, Mexico City) is a Biomedical Engineer from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus, 1987, Master in Biomedical Engineering, UAM Iztapalapa Campus, 1993, and has Doctoral studies (without degree exam) in Electrical Engineering, 1998, Colorado State University.

He is Professor of the Electrical Engineering Department of the UAM Iztapalapa Campus, since 1989. He is a member of the Neuroimaging Research Laboratory (LINI), belonging to the Digital Signal Processing and Biomedical Imaging Area of the Department.

He actively participates in the undergraduate programs in Computer Science and the graduate and postgraduate programs in Biomedical Engineering, offering courses in digital electronics, computer systems, signal and image processing, and pattern recognition. In addition, he contributes to these programs by advising terminal projects and graduate theses. He was awarded the UAM Iztapalapa Campus Teaching Award in 2010.

His field of interest is the processing and analysis of brain information of electrophysiological and anatomical-functional origin. He is involved in several research projects related to the automatic segmentation of magnetic resonance images by statistical methods, three-dimensional reconstruction and volumetric visualization of brain structures, EEG source estimation for neurosurgical planning, brain-computer interfaces, as well as in the development of hardware support systems for several of these applications.
