Víctor Manuel Cuevas Ahumada has an interdisciplinary academic background. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Administration from UAM, a Master's degree in International Economics and Politics from CIDE, a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA. He has also undertaken studies at the University of Colorado-Boulder and the University of California-Santa Barbara. He is a Research Professor in the Department of Economics at UAM-A, a PRODEP Profile scholar, a Level III National Researcher (maximum level), and a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences.
He has received notable recognition for his research work, including the Jesús Silva-Herzog National Economic Research Award in 2008, the award for Best Article Published in Issue 9 of the Colombian journal Economía, Gestión y Desarrollo (2010), first place in the UAM Textbook Development Competition (1992), and an Honorable Mention in the Metropolitan Research Award in Economics and Administration (2004). He has also been a Fulbright-García Robles Scholar for his Master's and Doctoral studies in the United States, as well as a scholarship recipient from CONACYT, CIDE, and Banco de México.
He is the author of three individual books, coordinator of nine collective books, and has published numerous works, including scientific articles and book chapters. His publications appear in various journals indexed by CONAHCYT, Thomson Reuters ISI, and Scopus Elsevier, among others, such as The World Economy, Cepal Review, PSL Quarterly Review, Brazilian Journal of Political Economy (in press), Investigación Económica, Contaduría y Administración, Revista Mexicana de Economía y Finanzas, Economía, Sociedad y Territorio, Estudios Económicos, Frontera Norte, Problemas del Desarrollo, and Economía Teoría y Práctica, among others. His work has been cited in approximately 20 countries across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
In addition to his interdisciplinary background, he has extensive experience in university management and academic evaluation, enabling him to understand and value the various facets of social sciences: teaching, research, dissemination, and institutional contributions. At UAM, he has held positions such as Head of an Academic Department, Master's Program Coordinator, Master's and Doctoral Program Coordinator, Responsible for Undergraduate Program Coordination, Member and Secretary of the Evaluation Committee for Economic and Administrative Sciences, Academic Council Member, Founder of the journal Gestión y Estrategia, and Founder of a Research Group and a Research Area recognized with multiple awards. He has promoted the formation of collaborative networks with institutions in other Mexican states and has served on the Social Sciences Evaluation Committee of the National Researchers System (SNII) and as an evaluator of research projects for CONAHCYT.
He has presented at numerous national and international congresses and seminaries and taught in Mexico, the United States, Poland, and Ecuador. He has taught many courses at the doctoral, master's, undergraduate, and specialized levels. Finally, he has supervised numerous theses at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels and has been a contributor to the editorial page of the newspaper El Financiero.
