Profile

Professor Javier Palacios Neri graduated in 1968 as an elementary school teacher from the Centro Regional de Enseñanza Normal de la Ciudad de Iguala, Guerrero. He worked as a rural teacher in the State of Coahuila until 1972. Since its creation, he participated in the National System of Secondary Education by Television. In 1979 he finished his Bachelor's Degree in Economics as a regular student of the first generation of economists of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Azcapotzalco Campus. He studied for a Master's Degree in Economics at the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas CIDE, A. C. in Mexico City. From 1982 to June 1984, he completed doctoral studies at the New School for Social Research in New York City. In 1984, he joined the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit.

Since 1985, he has been a Professor in the Department of Economic Production at the UAM Xochimilco Campus, in the Bachelor's Degree in Economics. The National Chamber of the Electronics and Electrical Communications Industry distinguished him by appointing him as an advisor in economic matters during the period 1990-1994.

His publications include articles analyzing the national electronics industry and technological change. He participated in several research congresses held by the Department of Economic Production, as well as lectures on technological issues. In August 1993, he received recognition from the Mexican Institute of Finance Executives for his participation in the annual research contest. In November 1994, he was recognized by the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana for belonging to the first generation of economists graduated from the University and joining the faculty. In November 1997, he received recognition for ten years of service at the Xochimilco Campus, in 2002 for 15 years and in 2007 for 20 years of uninterrupted teaching.

In March 1998 he published the book La Informática en México, co-published by the UAM Xochimilco Campus and Editorial Nuestro Tiempo. In the same year, he received the Award for Research Areas granted by the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities to teachers.

In 2001, he was Head of the Representative Office in the Federal District of the National Forestry Commission. In 2003, he was appointed Advisor in Economic Affairs to the Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources. From January 1, 2007 to January 2013, he served as advisor in economic affairs to the Undersecretary of Management for Environmental Protection at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. In November 2011, he participated in the evaluation of the Bachelor's Degree in Nanotechnology at the Technological University of Tecámac, State of Mexico. In July 2013, he participated as a lecturer at the National University of Costa Rica with a presentation on nanotechnology patents.

He continues with his classes on economic theory in the Bachelor's Degree in Economics at the UAM Xochimilco Campus and conducts research on the relationship between social sciences and nanosciences and nanotechnologies, the existence of The Singularity, and its impact on economic development. In June 2009 he presented his first novel, Corazoncito tirano.
