Professor María del Rocío Cruz Colín studied biochemical engineering at the National School of Biological Sciences of the National Polytechnic Institute. She carried out his professional thesis with the theme “Study of microbial strains capable of growing in Uracil as the only source of carbon and nitrogen” in the department of biochemistry in the nucleic acid laboratory.
She conducted her master's studies at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Azcapotzalco Campus, in the Postgraduate Program in Environmental Sciences and Engineering. Her thesis was with the theme "Biodegradation of DDT [1,1,1-tricloro-2,2-bis (p-chlorophenyl) ethane] in agricultural soils, by the white pinging fungus Phanerochaete Chrysosporium". She has carried out in the Environmental Microbiology Laboratory of the Chemistry Area.
Her assignment from 1984 to date is as a full-time professor with category C in the Division of Basic Sciences and Engineering, Department of Basic Sciences, Chemistry Area, at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Azcapotzalco Campus.
Since then, it has been developed in the environmental microbiology research line, participating in the Biotechnological and Bionanotechnological Process Research Project of Environmental Interest within the Environmental Pollution Research Program. Specific research lines are related to issues such as: isolation of microorganisms of contaminated environments; Biodegradation of contaminants in soil and water using lignocellolithic fungi; Use of the vermicomposting process for the treatment of organic waste; Enzymatic activities in soil and use of microalgae for the production of bioenergy.
He has taught courses at the degree and postgraduate levels such as: chemical reactions and bonding, material structure, applied microbiology, introduction to sustainable development, and introduction to biochemistry and environmental microbiology.
