Profile

Professor Salvador Duarte Yuriar studied Architecture at the National School of Architecture of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and a Master's and Ph.D. in Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, UNAM.

He was Project Manager of the Institute for the Development of Housing, INDECO, Sinaloa, in whose management he participated in the projects of the Jacarandas and Bugamvilias subdivisions in the cities of Los Mochis and Culiacán, Sinaloa, respectively, in a housing program in the ejido Valdés Montoya and the town of Badiraguato, Sinaloa, affected by flooding. Founder and general director of Constructora Duarte S.A., de C.V., with which important projects were carried out, such as the Industrial Park "El Quemadito" in Culiacán, Sinaloa, several works were built such as Sports Units for the Government of the State of Sinaloa in the cities of Costa Rica and Navolato, Sinaloa; Gas Station Unit in the ejido "Canán" and private houses in Culiacán, among others.

He is a Professor assigned to the research area Habitable Spaces and Environment; he was head of the area from January 2018 to August 2020, in the Methods and Systems department. He has participated in the Bachelor of Architecture and Graduate Degree in Sciences and Arts for Design of the Division of Sciences and Arts for Design of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Xochimilco Campus since 1985, where he teaches the subject "Design of Hospitals", Theory, History, and Construction, in the terminal cycle, and Research Seminar at the postgraduate level.

He is responsible for the research project: "Prevention and Mitigation of Disasters, Climate Change, Sustainability and Living Spaces in Mexico from 1980- 2015 and future scenarios", approved by the H. Divisional Council of CyAD-Xochimilco Campus, in process.

Professor of the Seminar "Post Occupational Evaluation" in the Specialty of "Planning of Spaces for Health" of the Graduate Division of the Faculty of Architecture of the UNAM.

He has been studying the subject of Architecture for Health for 20 years, developing different academic projects such as the ISSSTE General Hospital in the Tláhuac district of the CDMX, General Naval Hospital for the Mexican Navy Secretariat (SEMAR), in the cities of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz and Manzanillo, Colima; General Hospital with 30 census beds and COVID-19 Module for the Health Secretariat of Mexico City, among others. Project author, founder, and Coordinator of the Habitability and Sustainable Development Laboratory at UAM Xochimilco Campus, from 2011 to date. Author of the project and founder of the Laboratory of Materials and Technology of the Division of Sciences and Arts for Design, CyAD at UAM Xochimilco Campus (1999).

He has been a member of the College of Architects of Mexico City and Society of Mexican Architects (CAM-SAM) since 1990 and of the Mexican Society of Architects Specialized in Health Civil Association (SMAES, A.C.) from 2000 to date, in which he was president during the period 2005-2008, under whose management the "7th International Congress The Hospital of the Future" and the "Mexican Seminar of Hospital Architecture" were organized.

He has been Director Responsible for Construction (DRO # 0844) from 1990 to date, accredited by the Government of Mexico City. He participated in the Post Seismic Evaluation Program of the Government of the CDMX, evaluated about 40 buildings, and issued structural safety reports after the September 2017 earthquakes, including those of the Xochimilco Campus of the UAM and the UAM stomatological clinics located in the mayorships of Tláhuac, Tepepan, and Nezahualcóyotl.

Official representative of the UAM (appointed by the respective general rectors) in the National Committee of the Hospital Safe from Disasters Program, (from 2008 to date), headed by the National Coordination of Civil Protection of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (formerly attached to the Ministry of the Interior), of the Federal Government, convened worldwide by the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization (WHO).
