Professor Juan Manuel Hernández Vázquez is attached to the Department of Sociology at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus. He is a mechanical engineer at the UAM Azcapotzalco Campus, has Bachelor's in Sociology from the UAM Iztapalapa Campus, received a master's degree in Sociology of Labor at the Iztapalapa Campus, and has a Ph.D. in social studies, from the Iztapalapa Campus. He is the master's program coordinator and has a doctorate in social studies-labor studies Line. Member of the National System of Researchers, Level I.

Among his topics of study and contributions are the following: economic and social results of education. He has contributed to developing the National Institute for Education Assessment's educational indicators system and the National System of Educational Indicators of the SEP. Both indicator systems were published at the time.

Professor Hernández has contributed to the knowledge of labor quality by developing indicators and publications on the work situation in Mexico. He has also contributed to the development of the magazine JOVENes by IMJUVE, with recent publications on labor activity in the homes of young people; he has also contributed to the knowledge of the implementation of university reform in Mexico, from the perspective of its actors, with several publications (a coordinated book, chapters, and specialized journals) where several Mexican public universities are compared.

He has contributed to developing indicators of educational habitability with publications in education journals and presentations in congresses of the Mexican Council of Educational Research. He participated in various research projects, such as educational reform in the UAM Campus in Iztapalapa.
