Profile

Professor Alejandro Ramírez Lozano studied the Bachelor of Industrial Design at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and the Postgraduate in La Scuola Politecnica di Design, Milan in Product Design, Italy. History of Mexico, twentieth century, at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM). He has a diploma in packaging engineering and packaging, Faculty of Chemistry, UNAM, and a Diploma in Assisted Design, UAM.

Since 1983, he has been a researcher professor at the Division of Science and Arts for Design at the Azcapotzalco campus of the UAM. He was a university-industry Liasion coordinator from 1990 to 1994 and again from 1998 to 2002. From 2007 to 2011 he held the position of head of the Department of Research and Knowledge, Cyad. Since 2015 to date, he works as a graduate coordinator in design and product development of the division of science and arts for design.

His research topics developed in recent years focus on design for sustainability, design for social innovation, SSPS Sustainable Service-Product System. He specializes in the integration of innovative and complex project processes.

He participated in Design Mexico A.C. Agency that develops public strategies and policies that enhance national design as well as the National Design Award. He is a member of the LENS network (Learning Network on Sustainability) sponsored by the European Union. He is a member of the Board of Honor of the College of Industrial Designers and Graphics of Mexico Codigram.

To date, he collaborates with various manufacturing industries, public and private, and NGOs in the furniture design sectors, urban furniture, medical equipment, school equipment, craft, container and packaging, assembly of artisanal workshops, museography and plastic interventions in buildings.

He develops professional activity in Product Design and Research since 1978. He collaborated professionally in Milan, Italy with Gruppo Progettazione Integrale from 1980 to 1982.

Currently, he works in several projects and produces for Sordo Madaleno, Government of D.F., artisans from Tecali de Herrera in Puebla among others.

He created the trend "metadesign", proposing an artificial landscape of objects away from rationalism; With this experience, he participates in various national and international exhibitions with an object design, graphic and art. In 2003 he was invited to expose his work of industrial design in the triennial of Milan in Italy, within the exhibition "Gráfica, Architettura e Design in Messico".

He has been a jury for various design prizes in Mexico and abroad. He has obtained various national and international industrial design awards.
