Professor Federico Jesús Novelo y Urdanivia is a Mexican Economist who graduated from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), a Ph.D. in International Political Science from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Xochimilco Campus.
He is currently a Professor at UAM Xochimilco, a Member of the National System of Researchers (SNI), and a Full Member (seat 39) of the Mexican Academy of Political Economy (AMEP). He has taught undergraduate courses in economics, administration, sociology, politics, and social management, and in postgraduate studies in economics, master's degree in public policy, and doctorate in social sciences at UAM.
His intellectual production focuses on heterodoxy and Keynesian theory. He has written and coordinated 20 books on institutionalism, inequality, economic policy, philosophy, North American integration, migration, education, and history; more than 200 articles and journalistic notes were published throughout Latin America, Europe, and Japan. He currently writes weekly for El Universal.
Among his most recent distinctions, in 2022, he was awarded for the third time with the Teaching Award of the UAM Unidad Xochimilco, a distinction he had previously obtained in 2002 and 2004. Appointed Member of the Jury of the Annual Economic Research Award "Maestro Jesús Silva Herzog", of the Institute of Economic Research, UNAM, 2015 version, 2018 version, and 2023 version.
During 2023, he was a member of the External Evaluation Committee of the CIDE and the Evaluation Committee of the Social Sciences Area of the National System of Researchers 2023. He is recognized as a Full-Time Professor with a Desirable Profile by the Undersecretary of Higher Education for 3 years as of July 16, 2023.
He was the founding General Director of the magazine Planeación y desarrollo (Editorial Aleph), and has been a consultant for Nacional Financiera, the Organization of American States, and the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the training of human resources in the evaluation of investment projects in Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Brazil, Chile and Argentina.
He is a member of the Examining Committee of FEUNAM (2011-2017); examiner of the Teacher Improvement Program (PROMEP, SEP), the National Council of Science and Technology, and the Mexican Academy of Sciences. He was Head of the Department of Economic Production at UAM Unidad Xochimilco (2010-2014) and is currently a member of the Editorial Committee of Investigación Económica, Economía Informa, Punto de equilibrio and Economía UNAM.
