Professor Julio Goicoechea has worked as an economy professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus, in Mexico City. His research interests comprise regional economics. Within this field, he has studied the primary sector. He has also analyzed manufacturing production in Mexico, particularly the close links prevailing with the United States.

His research also includes production linkages between Mexico and its northern neighbor, the growth of agricultural production, regional manufacturing production, and production chains between Mexico and the United States.

The discipline that he uses is the regional economy, addressed through the following subdisciplines: the primary sector basically referred to Mexico due to: i) continuous population relevance; ii) Possibility of reducing external dependence, and iii) Increase supply and efficiency-oriented to a price reduction and increase in supply.
