Profile

Professor Rodrigo Pimienta Lastra was born in Palenque Chiapas with studies of Actuary in the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He has a Master's in Labor Administration from the National Institute for Labor Studies with the participation of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Xochimilco Campus. He has a Master of Science with a specialty in Experimental Statistics from the College of Postgraduates in Agricultural Sciences. He is a Doctor in Social Sciences with a specialty in Population Studies from the Center for Demographic Studies and Urban Development of El Colegio de México.

He did a Postdoctoral Stay in Thought and Culture in Latin America at the Center for Sociological Studies of El Colegio de México with the participation of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences. He completed a postgraduate degree in Techniques and Preparation of Auxiliaries for the Teaching of Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. He did the specialization on Perspectives of Social Sciences in Reproductive Health at El Colegio de México.

He has worked in different public institutions, such as in the former Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the General Statistics Office, and the STyPS; also as Deputy Director of Methodology of the National Institute of Public Health and Deputy Director of State Population Councils at the National Population Council.

He has several published books and more than 80 articles nationally and internationally. His lines of research are the analysis and exploration of large databases for the study of two topics; the first and most important, Internal Migration in Mexico; and the second, Aging of the Mexican Population. Additionally, he has written some articles on surveys in general from a methodological point of view. He has published some analisis of the results of the electoral surveys of the presidential elections of 2006 and 2018.

In recent years he has worked advising parasitologist doctors in the analysis of data from their research work.
