Profile

Professor David Montiel Salero started at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana as an administrative staff working as a Laboratory Technician; he later participated on an academic level as an Academic Technician and finally as a Professor of indeterminate time.

He obtained a bachelor's degree in Biology from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), working on the transmission of phytopathogenic fungi by seed in the barley crop. He also obtained his master's degree at UNAM, testing the efficiency of mycorrhizal (symbiotic) fungal strains from the state of Tlaxcala in tomato cultivation. The doctorate was carried out at the UAM, working on obtaining genetic fingerprints of the xoconostle cultivation in the state of Hidalgo.

He was Head of the Plant Pathology Laboratory from 1983 to 2018 (a position that he interrupted due to being in a sabbatical period). Professor Montiel participated as coordinator of the Laboratories of the Department of Agricultural and Animal Production and as representative of the Academic staff before the Divisional Council of the Directorate of Biological and Health Sciences.

He has participated as a teacher since the old Study Plan of the Bachelor of Agronomy in the modules of Establishment of Cultivated Plants, Growth and Development of Cultivated Plants, Reproduction of Cultivated Plants and within the new Degree Study Plan since 2002, participating particularly in the modules of Biotic Interactions of Agricultural Systems and Strategies for the Protection of Agricultural Systems.

He has served as an advisor to more than 90 Social Service jobs for the qualification of students with degrees in Agronomy and Biology. He has participated as a collaborator and head of various Research Projects at the Departmental and Divisional level, the most recent being the one completed in 2019 and entitled "Determinación morfológica y molecular del agente causal del mal del oro en xoconostles".

He was responsible for the project for the Strengthening of Research by the Rectory, "Influencia de las prácticas agrícolas sustentables sobre la comunidad de microorganismos edáficos en el poblado de Vicente Guerrero, municipio de Españita en Tlaxcala, México" and in the present of the Project "Diagnóstico de la macro, meso y microbióta rizófaga asociada a las jacarandas (Jacaranda mimosifolia D. Don) existentes en la UAM, Unidad Xochimilco".
