Profile
Dr. Arturo Robledo Martínez obtained his degree in Electrical Engineering with honors from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional in 1976. From 1976 to 1978, he pursued a Master of Science (Physics) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), earning the degree in 1980 with a thesis on particle accelerator physics.
Between 1979 and 1981, he worked at the Electrical Research Institute (Instituto de Investigaciones Eléctricas) in Palmira, Morelos, as a Researcher in charge of the Insulating Gas Physics project. In 1982, he joined the Department of Energy at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Azcapotzalco Campus, as an Associate Professor. That same year, he began his doctoral studies at the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology, Cardiff, United Kingdom, where he obtained a Ph.D. in 1986 with a thesis on gaseous dielectrics.
In 1986, he returned to the Azcapotzalco Campus of UAM, where he has worked continuously to this day and currently holds the position of Full Professor, Level “C”. At this institution, he served as Head of the Energy and Electromagnetism Area from 2001 to 2002. He was also a member of the Academic Council and of the Academic College of UAM from 1999 to 2001.
In 1995–1996, he undertook a research stay at the Blackett Laboratory of Imperial College London as a Visiting Scholar.
Dr. Robledo has taught 29 undergraduate courses and 4 graduate courses. He has supervised 50 undergraduate theses, 2 master’s theses, and 1 doctoral dissertation.
His current research areas include plasma physics, dense magnetized plasmas, laser-induced plasmas, and electrical discharges in planetary atmospheres. His research is documented in 51 articles published in international scientific journals and 76 papers in national and international conference proceedings. He has delivered over 100 presentations at national and international conferences.
A central part of his academic work has been infrastructure development: the Plasma Physics Laboratory at the Azcapotzalco Campus is the result of more than three decades of his dedicated effort.
Dr. Robledo is a member of several scientific societies: the Mexican Physical Society, the American Physical Society, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He has served as a peer reviewer for indexed international journals such as Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, Journal of Geophysical Research, among others.
In 1988, he was awarded the Science, Education and Technology Division Premium by the Institution of Electrical Engineers, London, United Kingdom. He is currently a Level II member of the Mexican National System of Researchers (SNII).
