Professor Luis Montaño Hirose obtained a B.S. degree in Administration from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and a Ph.D. degree in Organizational Sciences from the University of Paris IX-Dauphine, France. He did a postdoctoral stay at the School of Higher Commercial Studies in Canada. Since 1981 he has been a Professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus, where he was Head of the Organization and Society Research Area.
He was the first coordinator of the Graduate Program in Organizational Studies and of the Mexican Network of Researchers in Organizational Studies, of which he is currently the First Vocal Member. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Iberoamerican Association of Sociology of Organizations and the Board of Directors of the University of Guanajuato, as well as the Secretary of the Research Committee of Sociology of Organizations of the International Sociological Association. He was also a contributor to the newspapers Excelsior and El Financiero and a member of the Advisory Council of the Consortium of Mexican Universities, as well a Visiting Professor at the Municipal University of Osaka, Japan, and at the Ecole Polytechnique, France.
He has been a member of the National System of Researchers since 1985, currently level III; he has also participated in various editorial committees both in Mexico and abroad and in commissions related to higher education, such as the Integral Program for Institutional Strengthening and the Program for Improvement of Teaching Staff, as well as the Programs of Chairs for Young Researchers, Thematic Research Networks, Basic Scientific Research, the National Postgraduate Program, Development Projects to Address National Problems and Conacyt Scholarships Abroad; He served as president of the Social Sciences Review Commission of the National System of Researchers.
His current topics of interest are organizational modernization processes, psychological violence in organizations, modernization of universities and critical analysis of organizations. Among his publications are the coordination of the book La responsabilidad social de las organizaciones en México. Perspectivas críticas, experiencias y debates, Gedisa and UAM Iztapalapa Campus, Mexico, 2016 and the publication of the book El encuentro de dos empeños: la educación superior y la investigación científica. Vicisitudes of an institutional yearning, co-authored with Eduardo Peñalosa, UAM, Mexico, 2021.
