Profile
Professor Francisco José Gutiérrez Mendieta has a B.Sc. in Hydrobiology form the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Iztapalapa Campus (1977-1981), a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the Universidad Simón Bolívar, Caracas, Venezuela. He is a Proffesor at the Departament of Hydrobiology, DCBS, UAM Iztapalapa Campus since 1983.
His research lines include the physicochemical characterization of Mexican coastal lagoons and estuaries. Additionally, he has also been dedicated to studying the response of estuarine phytoplankton to environmental changes that occur in these ecosystems.
Finally, the effect of human activities on the Mexican coastal zone has been one of his research topics since 2008.
Author of more than 40 research papers in scientific journals and book chapters at national and international levels.
Advisor of more than 20 students at the B.Sc. level and 15 graduate students in UAM and at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
Head of the Department of Hydrobiology (2004-2008); Head of the Coastal Ecosystems Research Area; Coordinated the B.Sc. in Hydrobiology and actually the program M.Sc. in Biology (PNPC).
