Profile
Professor Víctor Ríos Cortázar is the Coordinator of First Level and Community Health in the Division of Biological and Health Sciences of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Xochimilco Campus.
A surgeon from the UAM Xochimilco Campus; He completed a master's degree in Social Anthropology at the National School of Anthropology and History (ENAH) and, later, a master's degree in Educational Technology at the Latin American Institute of Educational Communication (ILCE). He is currently a doctoral student in Sciences in Collective Health at UAM Xochimilco Campus.
During his career, he has been Section Chief at the National Indigenous Institute (currently Commission for the Development of Indigenous Peoples, CDI), Consultant at the United Nations Children's Fund - Mexico (UNICEF) in Primary Health Care projects, an external researcher in the Master of Social Medicine at the UAM Xochimilco Campus in Participatory Action Research projects on the Health of Workers in the steel industry, among others.
He has been the author or co-author of scientific books and scientific dissemination on topics related to community health, primary health care, workers' health, health promotion, participatory action research, organization processes, and social participation in health and history of medicine; as well as original articles in specialized magazines on the same topics.
In 2012, he obtained, in company with the rest of the work team, the National Award for the Third Ibero-American Contest on Good Practices for Health Promotion in the School Setting, convened by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), with the project of "Pequeñeces" Health Promotion School. That same year, he obtained third place in the 2012 National Community Social Service Award, convened by the National Association of Universities and Institutions of Higher Education (ANUIES) and the Mexican Institute of Youth (IMJUVE). In 2015, he obtained the national award for social service in the institutional category awarded by the Interinstitutional Commission for Social Service.
Currently, he is a Professor in the Department of Health Care at UAM Xochimilco Campus and is responsible for the Urban Health Project.
