Profile

Professor Carlos Cortez Ruíz has a doctorate in Anthropology from the Faculty of Philosophy and literature of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), with previous anthropology and engineering studies.

Since 1981 he has been a professor at the UAM Xochimilco Campus. He is currently teaching the Postgraduate in Rural Development (specialization, master's, and doctorate) and the bachelor's of Economics and Politics and Management. He has been a visiting Professor at Universities in Argentina, Ecuador, Spain, the United States, France, Guatemala, England, and Tanzania.

Since its origins, he has coordinated the Interdisciplinary Research Program "Human Development" of the UAM, and since 2018, he has coordinated the Project "Participation, collaboration and social action for change."

In his recent research, he has coordinated the project "Monitoring of the municipal strategy for southern Mexico," carried out in Campeche, Chiapas, and Yucatán; 2016 to 2017; Project Coordinator "Development of a social operation model of a self-managed telecommunications system." Collaboration project UAM-Redes-Rizhomatica with support from the SCT. 2016-2017-. Coordinator of the Project "Experiences, Problems and Potentialities of the Regional Indigenous Funds," carried out in collaboration with indigenous organizations from 11 states of Mexico; 2011-2012.

Between 2012 and 2015, he was a member of the Coordinating Group of the "Participate" project, carried out in 30 countries, on the Millennium Goals and the post-2015 debate, coordinated by the Institute for Development Studies (IDS-University of Sussex, England). He also collaborated on the project "Cultural Diversity and Interculturality in Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean," coordinated by the International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean, UNESCO, 2008-2010. Between 2001 and 2011, he was a member of the Development Research Center on Citizenship, Participation, and Transparency (DRC). Coordinated by the Institute of Development Studies (Sussex University). Collaborating institutions from Bangladesh, Brazil, India, England, Jamaica, Nigeria, England, and South Africa.
