Professor César A. Guarín Durán is a chemist from the Universidad Industrial de Santander-Colombia (UIS, 2002-2008).
He worked in the Theoretical Biochemistry Group (UIS-Colombia), where he studied structure-property relationships for the quantum yield of singlet oxygen production in aromatic ketones, using specialized chemistry software (MolconnZ, Gaussian, Hyperchem, etc.) and multivariate relationships between experimental and theoretical data.
During his Master studies at the Instituto de Química, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), he performed synthesis of several organic compounds and complexes with axial ligands, electronic structure calculations on the Kambalám and Miztli supercomputers and spectroscopy experiments determining optical properties of the materials.
During his Ph.D. training, he based his knowledge and skills on the use of femtosecond time-resolved spectroscopic techniques to study molecular processes in electronic and vibrational excited states, and exciton relaxation dynamics in nanomaterials. He investigated phenomena initiated by absorption of ultraviolet, visible and infrared electromagnetic radiation.
In 2016 and 2017, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Centro de Ciencias de la Atmósfera-UNAM, in remote sensing spectroscopy to analyze the photochemistry of reactive species present in the atmosphere and to quantify pollutant gases. In 2017, he was a Professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus. He is currently a CONACYT Professor commissioned to UAM with the project "Consolidation of the Laboratory of Matter Interaction and Ultrashort Light Pulses".
Dr. Guarín performs his research daily at the Laboratory of Photonics, Non-Linear Optics and Ultrafast Processes (AT001)" which is in charge of Dr. Emmanuel Haro Poniatowski and Dr. José Luis Hernández Pozos. He also teaches and advises students of the Physics program at UAM in their social service work and terminal projects on topics related to time-resolved laser spectroscopy techniques.
During these years, he has published the results of his research, which include experimental spectroscopic measurements and calculations with quantum chemistry software, having eight publications in several specialized journals. He also has the registration of a patent in 2015 before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI). He has participated both in national and international conferences (as a speaker and poster), as well as in short training courses highlighting as a scholar, the Winter School in Optics: Extreme Nonlinear Optics, Attosecond Science and Ultra-Intense Field Physics, ICTP, Trieste-Italy.
