Professor Icela Dagmar Barceló Quintal is a Chemical Engineer from the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Yucatan with Master's Degree in Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Guanajuato and Ph.D. in Engineering in Water Sciences at the Inter-American Center for Water Resources, of the Faculty of Engineering at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México.

Professor Barceló is a founder of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) she began working in the Azcapotzalco Campus in 1974, where she is currently a Professor and Researcher and teaches in the Department of Basic Sciences of the Division of Basic Sciences and Engineering.
