From Mexico City, Professor Luz María García Cruz studied physics (1979) at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and concluded with the thesis: Calibration of high-intensity cobalt sources using a Chemical dosimeter. Master's in Science with Specialty in Nuclear Engineering (1995) by the Instituto Politécnico Nacional with the Thesis: Numeric solution of the neutron transport equation in geometry X-Y and using a nodal DSA method. And Doctorate in Science and Engineering of Materials (2005) from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM). With the thesis: electronic structure of transition metal bands with possible magnetic activity on surfaces, thin films, and interfaces.
The acknowledgments she has received within the UAM have been, the Medal of University Merit (2006), the 2007 Teaching Award (2007) The 2011 (2012) teaching award, scholarship to permanence (2018-2022 ), Teaching support scholarship (2020-2021).
She has the Professor's recognition with desirable profile-PRODEP (2020-2023).
