Professor Gerardo González Ascencio has been a professor attached to the Law Department of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Azcapotzalco Campus for 40 years. In that time he has dedicated himself to teaching about the history of Mexico and in the last decades the subjects of Criminology and History of Punishment in Mexico (Penology), he also teaches the course on Criminal Law and Gender in the Master's of Law that is taught at the UAM Azcapotzalco Campus.

He cultivates two lines of research: the first has to do with sexual criminal law and studies on gender violence in Mexico and the second is related to the history of crime in 19th century Mexico.

Within his substantive functions as a full-time professor, he has held different academic management positions, Coordinator of the Law Degree, Head of the Law Department and Academic Secretary of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities.

In political activism, he participated for decades in an NGO specialized in gender violence and was part of the technical groups that formulated proposals (turned into positive legislation) for reforms in the area of sexual crimes and domestic violence.
