Professor María Eugenia Fraile Ortega is a biologist by the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) (1978), M.Sc. by UNAM (1987). Head of the Botany area (1989-1993), and professor with PROMEP profile (2009-2011). She joined the UAM in May 1981.

Currently, she is a Professor designed to the Pteridofitas Research Group (1981-1992) and subsequently to the Biosystem of Legumes (1993 to date) of the Botany Area in the Department of Biology, Division CBS, UAM Iztapalapa Campus.

With teaching experience in the delivery of more than 200 degree level courses in Biology and Experimental Biology (UAM Iztapalapa Campus): Evolution of plant structures, plant diversity, vegetable anatomy, plant histology, vegetable organography, botany III (gymnosperms and angiosperms ), Palynology, select issues of biology and research seminars, among others.

She is involved in human resources training in the Directorate / Advisory of Social Services, Advisor and Jury Member of Bachelor's Thesis (UAEM) and Master's (UNAM and UAM).

Responsible (since 2002) of investigation themes related to Leguminosae Biosystematics, a research line that, through morphological, anatomical, palynological, cytogenetical and plantulae studies, intends to solve taxonomical problems, based on a better understanding of the family Leguminosae. She has also collaborated in several specific projects within Botany and other research areas of the Biology Department.

Professor Fraile has published several scientific and divulgation papers and chapters in research books, participated in national and international meetings, and served as member of several of their organizing committees.

She has been a reviewer for research projects, scientific and divulgation articles, and participated as an academic representative of the Biology Department at the Divisional (CBS), and Academic Councils (UAM Iztapalapa Campus).
