Profile
Professor Javier Velázquez has a Bachelor of Medicine and Master's Degree in Psychobiology, both of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), and has a Doctorate in Biology of Reproduction. He joined the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) in 1979 to build the sleep and behavior laboratory in the Department of Biology of Reproduction. His first international publications referred to the impact of sleep deprivation on the hormonal regulation of sexual behavior. In 1988, he did a research stay at the University of California in San Diego as an Associate Researcher until 1990, with the topic of Cholinergic regulation of REM sleep. He has twice been the winner of the Research Award in the UAM, and its research area has gained the prize to the areas of research twice.
He has worked as head of the Department of Biology of Reproduction. He has been appointed as a distinguished teacher of the UAM and a rector of the Iztapalapa Campus of the UAM. His production in indexed journals with the International Editorial Committee has more than 100 papers, with several citations of approximately 2100 for 2020. He has directed eight thesis of master's and 15 of doctorate. Editor and CoEDitor of 12 specialized books. Founder of the UAM Science Fair converted later in the Office of Disclosure of Science and Humanities. National Award for Communication of Science (Radio). Director and host of more than 100 radio programs (between peers).
