Profile
Dr. Ricardo López Wilchis was born in Córdoba, Veracruz, Mexico. He obtained his bachelor in Biology, Master's Degree, and Doctorate in Science, from the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
He is a professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Iztapalapa Campus, where he is currently the head of the Biology and Mammalian Ecology Laboratory. He has been head of the Department of Biology, Head of the Zoology Area, and Ph.D. Coordinator in Biological Sciences.
He has been a member of the Group of Specialists in Bats (Chiroptera Specialists Group) of the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) since 2005. He has published more than 60 research articles in national and international specialized journals and several books and Scientific dissemination articles.
His research is mainly multidisciplinary, combining aspects of reproduction, trophic ecology, ecology of populations, distribution patterns, phylogeography, and molecular biology with particular emphasis on Mexican mammals. He is involved in research projects involving fieldwork with bats and other Mexican mammals. His work has recently focused on Mormoopidae bats with distribution in Mexico to investigate its evolutionary patterns, combining new genetic and genomic tools with spatial analyses and its surroundings. In addition to this, his research also involves the conservation of biodiversity.
