Profile

Professor Carlos Aguirre Pangburn studied industrial design at UIA; he traveled to London, where he lived for three years, and studied Special Advanced Studies at the Central School of Design. He returned to Mexico and worked at the University of Guadalajara for a year, developing the study program for the industrial design career.

In 1978 he entered the Xochimilco Campus of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) in the graphic design career. Professor Aguirre describes his career as a visual artist. He has practiced what he has investigated, both with semiotics and with techniques and materials, including contemporary design, photography, and construction of artistic works.

In the visual arts, he had his first individual exhibition in San Carlos in May 1978. At the Museum of Modern Art in 1981, he participated in Biennials (Paris, Sao Paulo, Havana, etc.). He won the National Painting Prize in 1980. In 1996 he had the Guggenheim scholarship and three times the FANCA scholarship for alternative means.

He has had individual and collective exhibitions in different museums and galleries. During the nineties, he designed around 1,200 book covers for publishers: Alfaguara, Editorial Alliance, Nueva Imagen, and Oceano. In 2015 he had retrospective exposure; Zona de riesgo, in the main hall of the Museum of Modern Art, and the Retrospective Exposure: Grupo Proceso Pentagono, policies of the intervention. At the University Museum of Contemporary Art. He is currently preparing a book about the work developed. It will be called: Risk zone. With the RM publishing house.
