Profile

Professor Araceli Cortes García has been working in the Department of Man and his Environment at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) Xochimilco Campus, since 2005. She is a graduate in Biology and a postgraduate in Agricultural Sciences.

She has participated in research with the National Aquaculture Health Program and the National Network for the Diagnosis and Prevention of Diseases in Aquatic Organisms (PRONALSA). Sponsored by SAGARPA-CONAPESCA from 2002 to 2007, she participated in the Technological Development Project for the Improvement of Species of Commercial Interest, sponsored by SAGARPA - CONAPESCA from 2008 - 2010.

In 2012, he collaborated with SAGARPA-CONAPESCA and the subdelegation of Fisheries in the State of Tlaxcala in the project Ordenamiento pesquero. From 2017-2020, she developed research projects aimed at community linkage in Oaxaca, Tlaxcala, and Hidalgo states. Active collaborator of the Departmental Project approved by Divisional Council of Unit Induced reproduction and health in aquatic organisms.

As for the Service, she has participated as an instructor in more than ten courses on the Reproduction of Cyprinids and the diagnosis of pathogens in fish cultures directed to producers of the states of Hidalgo, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Michoacán, and Oaxaca. Since 2007, the laboratory has been recognized by SAGARPA-CONAPESCA as a third specialist laboratory that provides diagnostic services for diseases in aquatic organisms, making more than seven agreements with the State Committees of Aquaculture Health.

In the field of teaching, from 2005 - 2008, she was hired by the Xochimilco Campus as an Assistant. She contributed with a coefficient of 0.2 in the Life Histories module. From 2010 - 2012 she collaborated for the Department Man and its environment as a Visiting Professor, teaching the module Biodiversity and Natural Resources. In 2016 she collaboratively taught the module Analysis of Ecological Systems and Environmental Analysis and Planning. In September 2012, she obtained the indeterminate position category Associate D teaching Life History Module to date. In 2020 she taught module III of the Applied Ecology postgraduate course.

Her interest in Dissemination has led her to present at least 30 papers at National and International Congresses and meetings on Reproduction and Aquaculture Health. She has published four books and at least three chapters. She has also contributed with more than 12 scientific dissemination articles and eight articles in indexed journals.

She has supported the training of students with the direction of social service of more than 20 students and more than five graduate students; she is interested in being updated on current issues, so she tries to attend the courses given by CECAD or other instances that offer relevant topics. She is a member of the Re-accreditation Commission, of the Social Service Commission, of the academic group of Teaching of the Bachelor's Degree in Biology.
